Embedded Software Engineers

We are seeking experienced and motivated Embedded Software Engineers, who will be responsible for the software systems to power and control electric vehicles safely and effectively. Software must be developed for safety-critical applications.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and implementation of robust software for embedded high power electric drive components and integrating them into vehicle systems
  • Developing software within a structured environment, adhering to coding standards and functional safety principles, and with full documentation and processes
  • Control of electric motors, lithium ion traction batteries and other sub-systems
  • Management of multiple drives and batteries in a vehicle, and operation with the vehicle ECUs.
  • Design and implementation of vehicle telematics
  • Creating PC applications for customer configuration, telematics interface and internal Magtec test and manufacturing systems
  • Provide engineering support within manufacturing and to customers where needed, primarily remotely but occasionally on site

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree qualified in a software-related discipline
  • Excellent coding skills in C/C++
  • Experience working with real time processes on embedded controllers or DSP
  • Working in a structured software environment using coding standards such as MISRA C
  • CAN communications systems, preferably J1939
  • Experience of ISO26262, rail industry standards etc. would be highly beneficial
  • Electric motor control, battery management, vehicle control experience would be  very appropriate
  • Modelling of control systems etc. in Matlab or similar would be advantageous
  • Development of PC based applications
  • The ability to manage scheduled design activities to achieve on time delivery
  • Experience of working in a proactive engineering environment is essential

Electronics Design Engineer

We are seeking a talented and motivated Electronics Design Engineer, who will be responsible for the design, construction and troubleshooting of motor drives, battery systems, switchmode power supplies and other electronics systems for use in commercial vehicles.

Key responsibilities:

  • Specification, design, and verification of a range of electronic systems for use in electric vehicles
  • Circuit analysis, schematics, PCB layout
  • Converter topology selection, design and simulation to meet key industry/automotive EMC and safety standards
  • Design of traction battery management systems, both on- and off- vehicle
  • Introduction of new switch mode power supply products
  • Provision of accurate documentation in accordance with company procedures (requirements, design records, verification, FMEA etc.)
  • Collaboration with customers, manufacturing and production engineering
  • Supervising development, test and validation of initial prototype hardware
  • Supporting transfer of product, through manufacture, to end customer

Skills and Experience:

  • Good degree or equivalent
  • Detailed knowledge of analogue, digital and power electronics
  • Experience of design for manufacture
  • Supervision of engineers and technicians
  • Thermal modelling, design for EMC would be advantageous
  • Experience of motor drives, battery management or other power electronics would be preferred

Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer, who will be responsible for the design, construction and productionising of components and systems for electric vehicle use.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design of close tolerance machined components, castings and moulded parts, pressed metal components, shaft, bearing / seal design and component selection
  • Building and managing complex 3D models
  • Undertaking design analysis including lifetime and strength calculations on rotating parts and structures
  • Providing fully documented designs
  • Creating design layouts and schematics for design solutions
  • Provide engineering support within manufacturing and to customers where needed

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree qualified in a mechanical engineering discipline
  • Good 3D packaging and visualisation skills
  • Rotating machinery design experience
  • Transmission design experience
  • Good understanding of design for manufacture, machining tolerances, GD&T
  • Experience of design in a structured quality environment
  • Experience in producing DFMEA documentation
  • The ability to manage scheduled design activities to achieve on time delivery
  • Experience of working in a proactive engineering environment is essential

Electrical Team Leader

The Team Leader will oversee the day to day running of the Electrical department to ensure efficient and timely delivery of parts and assemblies manufactured by the company to their destinations. You will be responsible for Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery of the department’s activities and bring a fresh approach to this function to support production needs. The Team Leader is the link with other functions in the organisation such as Engineering, Quality, Stores, Procurement, HR and Planning.

Stores Operative

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Received goods and booking in on system
  • Unpacking and first inspection of goods
  • Liaise with Accounts, Quality and Production departments
  • Organise return of goods to suppliers
  • Packaging and despatch of goods
  • Cycle counting
  • Cleaning of the stores areas
  • Stock replenishment
  • Picking of stock and kitting for manufacture
  • Issuing of parts for manufacture
  • Generation of minimum stock level reports
  • Waste management
  • Local deliveries and collections of goods
  • Promote safe working practices and lead by good example
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience

  • Warehouse experience in a manufacturing environment (Essential)
  • Fork Lift truck license (Essential)
  • Clean driving license (Essential)
  • Must pride themselves on high quality work and attention to detail
  • Experience of using SAGE, SAP or similar software for receiving and issuing goods
  • Computer literate with experience of MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to work safely and ensure the safety of others
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to handle delicate and sensitive components in addition to heavier parts
  • Must have good communication skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Ability to prioritise, organise and  liaise across all departments
  • Must be hard working, and be able to work under pressure with the ability to manage specific details to tight deadlines

Electrical Assembly Technicians

Reporting to: the Electrical Assembly Supervisor you will be responsible for the assembly of Electronic/Electrical Sub-Assemblies for EV Drive Systems and the operation of the associated test rigs and verification programs for these products.

Key Duties Include:

  • Assembly of Electrical Sub-Assemblies for High Voltage Electric Vehicle Drive Systems
  • Test and verification of finished products
  • Manufacturing bespoke cables and looms using hand tools.
  • Hand assembly of through-hole and SMD components onto PCA’s.
  • Fault diagnosis and rework of Sub-Assemblies / document updates
  • First article builds
  • Aid new product launch
  • Complete documentation for certification
  • Progress Returns documenting faults / no fault found reports

 Skills and Experience

  • Experience of  working to written working instructions including automotive schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Experience with hand soldering PCA’s (preferably to IPC Standards)
  • Excellent dexterity and ability to work on precision assemblies
  • A good level of IT literacy for reporting purposes (Word and Excel)
  • Organised with a flexible approach
  • Motivated and results driven
  • Common sense approach
